Discretion at our agency, as you probably know, is paramount. A friend recently asked me, “Isn’t it obvious when you are out with clients on a dinner date or whatever they have hired you?”

I answered a few of his questions with my very plausible answers and then employed my favourite fail-safe trick – I turned it round to him, I asked him plenty of questions about himself, and it worked a charm. He lapped up the questions and the attention, and five minutes later, my client and I were able to extricate ourselves from the situation.
